What’s the oddest use you found for duct tape?
Duct tape is such a versatile tool. Whether you make clothes out of them, or reattached something back together with it. Here’s the weirder uses our team has come up with:
Kent Crider
Mornings
I had a storm door on a building one time and the push button handle was going bad. I tore thin strips of duct tape and wrapped around the inside latch so I wouldn’t get locked out.
Hunter Hendricks
Weekdays
I’m absolutely not advocating this – kids, don’t try it at home – but if you duct-tape fireworks together and light them simultaneously, it’s…entertaining. Just look it up on YouTube and save yourself the possibility of bodily harm.
Mike Renick
Afternoons
Hard to say because it comes in so handy…maybe wrapping around my show cause I had a whole in the bottom…

Toilet paper! Haha jk. That would be painful wouldn’t it? I guess being from Southeast Missouri I’d have to say to fix a leaky canoe. And the crazy part is it worked! It really does have a million uses.

My track record with cell phones isn’t great. Actually, it’s a continuous, systematic failure… Nevertheless, duct tape was a key performance tool in attempting to hold working components together. Phones were harmed in the making of those repairs.

When I was in high school I made a wallet entirely out of duct tape.

Which exotic animal would you want as a pet?
Suppose you could have any exotic animal as a pet. Be it a rhino, giraffe, tiger, koala, or any other exotic creature, which would you pick?
Hunter Hendricks
Weekdays
I guess you could consider a fox exotic in regards to being a pet, right? I’d be pretty excited to have a tamed fox around the house, even if our dog definitely wouldn’t. My wife’s answer to this is more interesting, though, and I’m positive this is what it would be: a bear, purely so she could receive a literal bear hug.

Realistically, I have to go with an elephant. I can actually ride it and it wouldn’t murder my face. Unrealistically, I want a Pegasus… cause flying horse!!!

I’ve always wanted a Capuchin monkey. These are the little monkeys you may have seen at the fair. You can give them a coin and they will tip their hat to you. I’d train it do all sorts of things.

What’s your personal theme song?
This week we ask the staff what song they would pick to start playing when they enter a room. Here’s what they said:
Kent Crider
Mornings
” I am the Morning DJ at W-O-L-D” by Harry Chapin
Hunter Hendricks
Weekdays
As a former pro-wrestling participant, I can answer this without speaking hypothetically! My Cape Championship Wrestling themes were “The Collapse” by Adelita’s Way, and later, “This Light I Hold” by Memphis May Fire. That said, divorced from those situations, I’m partial to classic, symphonic themes, like the score from Raiders of the Lost Ark, for example.

This is a tough one. It would ultimately depend on the mood I’m in. I’m struggling between ‘Use Me’ by Bill Withers, ‘Walken’ by Wilco, and ‘Jeep’s Blues’ by Duke Ellington. I think I have to go with Duke on this one. A quote from the movie ‘American Hustle’ – “Who starts a song like that?!….It’s magic.”

Would You Rather Time Travel to 1900 or 2100?
Suppose time travel were possible and you could either go forward in time or visit the past, we asked our staff would they rather go forward or backward a century. Here’s what everyone said:
Hunter Hendricks
Weekdays
If you could confirm for me that there will still be an Earth in 2100, then yeah, let’s take a leap into the unknown. That’s far more interesting to me than visiting the past in general since I can effectively learn about the past here and now. Ultimately, though, “visit” is the key word for me; I don’t want to be stuck anywhere out of my own time, thanks.
Mike Renick
Afternoons
I would say Earth in 2100…lets not go backward!

While the romanticism of the 20th-century history intrigues me, I am much more inclined to visit the future. I love science, space, and technology and would be very curious to see the surprises.
Drew Koeppel
Writer
I would rather visit Earth in 2100. I’d be very curious to see how the human race has evolved, for better or for worse. This is an especially interesting question, considering our current day and age. We seem to be on the brink of enormous change, and I’d love to see how it all pans out. A big reason I’d choose to visit the future is that it would be temporary. If I were to move to one of these points in time permanently, I think I’d have to choose the past, because at least I know what happened. Who knows what the future holds.
Hope you enjoyed this weeks post. A special shout out to our General Manager, Christy Benton, for submitting this question. If you’d like to submit a question, just leave it in the comments below and don’t forget to join in on the fun and comment below with your answer!

Would You Rather Give Up Cheese or Bacon for Lent?
Lent is about to begin and while not all of us are Catholic, we asked one of the toughest questions of all time. If you had to give up bacon or cheese for the 40 days, which would you choose?
Kent Crider
Mornings
I could much easier give up bacon than cheese. I use different types of cheeses on salads and other things I eat, but usually only have bacon for an occasional breakfast.
Hunter Hendricks
Weekdays
First of all, how dare you.
Secondly, if I had to pick, I could let bacon go for a little while over cheese. I put cheese in and on way more things than I do bacon, all told.
And finally, how dare you.
Mike Renick
Afternoons
Bacon…while I really really like bacon it seems like cheese is in everything…limits my options if I give up cheese!
Karley McDaniel
Promotions Director
I’d give up bacon. Not because I’d want to. But because I’d lose my sanity over a life without cheese before I would a life without bacon.
Whatever it is, throw some cheese on it before you serve it to me. It’s a Gouda idea….
Stephen K
Digital Manager & Webmaster
As much as I love bacon, I feel that cheese is more of an everyday encounter and that 40 days of no bacon is painful, I’m afraid 40 days without cheese would be torture for me.

Which 2017 New Releases Are You Gonna See?
The Oscars are coming up this week so we thought we would ask the staff which movies coming out in 2017 that are excited to see. Here’s what everyone said:
Kent Crider
Mornings
I was looking forward to going to “The Founder” starring Michael Keaton. The story about McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc but so far it hasn’t made it on the list here in Cape.
Hunter Hendricks
Weekdays
You want the list alphabetically or chronologically? Spider-Man: Homecoming and Star Wars:
The Last Jedi are probably my two most-anticipated, but you can’t count out Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Logan, the Lego Batman Movie, and Wonder Woman. I’m cautiously optimistic about Justice League, The Dark Tower, Blade Runner 2, and that new Pirates of the Caribbean too.
Mike Renick
Afternoons
I like to be surprised. I don’t know a lot that are in the works right now but when they come out…I’ll decide on what I think is best!

I’m not a huge movie buff but there’s a few I’m down to see this year.
1. Assassin’s Creed – Although this is technically a 2016 release, it HAS carried over to 2017. When I first saw the Unity game trailer I didn’t want it to end. Behold, I now have 1 hr and 55 minutes of action to revel in.
2. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – Little explanation needed; the movie soundtrack is gonna be killer. The sarcastic humor will be on point. Will it be better than the first? Probably not, but I just can’t say…
3. Super Troopers 2 – The original is near and dear to my heart. Plus, I have to make sure this one doesn’t ruin the reputation of its predecessor.

There is no shortage of movies I’m looking forward to see this year including: Logan (Hugh Jackman is such a great Wolverine), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Transformers: The Last Knight, Thor: Ragnarok, The Fate of the Furious, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Wonder Woman, Fist Fight (looks so ridiculous), Ghost in the Shell (Just saw this trailer in the last few days and it looks so BA!), and War for the Planet of the Apes. These are just the films I’m aware of, but there are 3 that I’m most excited about… Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Will always be a Star Wars fan; loving the new trilogy so far), Alien:Covenant (The original Alien is one of my all-time favorites), and Blade Runner: 2049 (Original Blade Runner is one of my all-time favorites and I’m also looking forward to seeing Harrison Ford return).

Which U.S. Presidents Would You Like To Have Dinner With?
With a brand new President in office and President’s Day nearly upon us, this week we asked the crew which US Presidents, of any era, they would like to have dinner with.
Kent Crider
Mornings
I’ve always been interested in Andrew Jackson. I have visited his Hermitage home outside of Nashville and watched some documentaries about his life. I would have dinner with him and hear about the battle of New Orleans and some of the other things that happened in his lifetime. He was the founder of the Democratic Party and one of the three investors who founded the city of Memphis, Tn.
Hunter Hendricks
Weekdays
Living is simple; it’s definitely President Obama. Deceased…I think it’d be hard to turn down a dinner invitation from a guy like JFK or Teddy Roosevelt.
Mike Renick
Afternoons
George Washington…as the years go on I’m more intrigued about how our country began. I think we have a certain idea in our minds about what things were like at that point but I’d rather get it from someone that was there!
Stephen K
Digital Manager & Webmaster
Franklin Delano Roosevelt would be my first pick as he served as our President through some of our country’s major historical events in the 20th century including the Great Depression and World War II, as well as spearheading the New Deal. I’d like to hear his stories about his meetings with Churchill and Stalin, his experiences in being elected a record four times as president, and just his general experiences in his 12 years as President.
What about you? Which Presidents would you like to have over for dinner and what would you like to talk about with them? Or would you rather have a political party?! Join in on the fun and let us know your answer in the comments below!

What’s the Funniest Valentine’s Day Gift You’ve Ever Received or Given?
Whether you have made your plans for Valentine’s Day or not, perhaps you can pull some inspiration of what to do (or possibly what not to do) from our experiences… or at least get some entertainment out of our responses! We hope you enjoy the post and have a wonderful Valentine’s Day with your sweetheart!
Kent Crider
Mornings
I love funny stuff, but have never joked around about Valentine’s Day gifts. I’ve played it pretty straight down the line over the years with the basics like candy, flowers, balloons, and things like that. I work in plenty more off the wall humorous stuff the rest of the year (ha).
Hunter Hendricks
Weekdays
My wife was pilfering my studio headphones on a regular basis for better sound quality while watching Netflix on her iPad, so unconventional as it would be for anyone other than a DJ, I bought her a pair of her own for Valentine’s Day a few years ago.
Mike Renick
Afternoons
I don’t remember anything overly funny. Seems like it’s the usual stuff. Come to think of it I can’t really remember what I’ve got in the past. I’m usually a sucker for chocolate donuts and chocolate milk so it’s probably something along those lines most of the time.
Stephen K
Digital Manager & Webmaster
The funniest Valentine’s day I remember receiving was one of those giant chocolate chip cookies with the icing on top, like a cake, but a cookie. It had a giant icing heart. The front desk had called and said I had a valentine’s delivery and I was highly confused considering I was single, but it was from a friend who knew I loved those massive cookies.

What day would you like to relive or experience again?
In honor of Groundhog Day, but with the Bill Murray movie twist, we asked our crew what day they would want to experience again, whether it was just once, or on-demand now and then.
Hunter Hendricks
Weekdays
Inherently, I would say my wedding day for obvious reasons, but my wife and I were actually sick that day…so I’ll go with our first anniversary trip to a lodge outside Branson (once again, for obvious reasons.)
Mike Renick
Afternoons
I’m hoping to get a few brownie points here but my wedding day/night is a day that really sticks out to me as a great day. The day was very smooth, was full of great friends and family, and was fun! Obviously starting a new life journey with my wife is at the top of the day but so many pieces of the day stick out to me as being great. However, as many know who have had a wedding day, it’s almost a blur and you need to have the day happen about three or four times to take it all it…and remember who was all there! For many many reasons, it was a great day!

I came up with this question, but ironically I had some difficulty coming up with an answer. I don’t have any kiddos and have never been married. Nothing comes to mind about something that was so amazing that I recall, but I recently had an experience that I would like to recall and experience again…
You may not know, but I have been announcing for Cape Girardeau Roller Derby for about 5 years now. I love working with and being involved with the team.
They have this tradition of circling up and giving “warm and fuzzies” while they cool down and stretch at the end of practice.
Recently they put me in the center of the circle and each of the dozen or so skaters took a turn boasting, complimenting, and bragging on me and it is definitely one of my favorite moments. I was pretty red-faced by the end, but I was honored, touched, proud, and felt so loved.
A big thank you to the ladies of CGRD for such a memorable moment!

What NFL Team Would You Move to Cape Girardeau?
As football playoffs continue and we get closer to the championship, we asked the team which NFL team would they move to Cape. Here’s what they had to say:
Hunter Hendricks
Weekdays
Unpopular opinion time: I’m not a football fan. Give me basketball or baseball any day of the week if we have to talk sports. That said, let’s go with…the Arizona Cardinals. I’m an agent of chaos.
Mike Renick
Afternoons
This is easy! May favorite football team has been the Arizona Cardinals for years! They were formerly the St. Louis Cardinals so it would be a perfect fit! Bring the Cardinals back to Missouri! Cape would be a great spot…great tailgating at Houck!
Stephen K

I lived in St. Louis as a kid and in my neighborhood we grew up on St. Louis Cardinals Baseball, St. Louis Blues Hockey, and St. Louis Cardinals Football. I would love to see the Cardinals return to Missouri, and there you have my choice.
